Officers Club Renovation/ Restoration Naval Air Station, Pensacola
HCDI designed a fast-track, Design-Build of the historic
35,000 sf Officers Club. HCDI, working closely with KBR, carved out rich
spaces that had been lost to insensitive renovations throughout the last
thirty years. HCDI utilized layers of space and design changes in the
ceiling planes to create a historically accurate, enriching space with all
modern amenities and complying with current codes. HCDI provided interior
design / restoration services, completed construction administration
reviews and designed, procured and managed the installation of all the
furniture and interior accessories. The renovation included the vestibule,
lobby, restrooms,bar/ dining/ billiard rooms, ballroom, two dining rooms,
kitchen, catering private offices/ open office and the officers' flag room.
Temporary Lodging Facility
MacDill AFB, Florida
The overall programming objective for the Temporary
Lodging Facility was to accommodate a 50-unit complex for families (25
single units, 23 double units and 2 handicap accessible units), as well as,
a supporting service building (totaling 48,000 SF) on a pedestrian friendly
site. The complex was planned into a village concept to enhance the sense
of community. The design seamlessly integrates the regional vernacular and
the historic buildings on base with the current Air Force standards, thus
setting the standard for future development on the base and creating the
prototype for this building type used in the USAF Design Guide.
Awards: US Air Force Mobility Command 2001 Design Award in
Conceptual Category and 2004 Design Award in the Facility Category.
Controller Training School
Tyndall AFB, Florida
The design of a new 38,000 SF
educational facility for training Air Force air traffic controllers
consisted of four areas: Command, Operations, Training and Public Areas.
The project was designed with state-of-the-art audio/visual equipment,
registrar offices, multiple classrooms (many with special acoustic
requirements for confidential “SECRET” level discussions) and a 250 seat
lecture hall. The facility is an efficient training school, in addition to
a quality, aesthetically pleasing hub of activity for Tyndall AFB.
AWARD: 2004 AETC Design Award for
Visitors Information Center
HCDI acted as a Design Consultant/ Advisor to Santa Rosa
County to develop a new image for the community and a design guide for the
new Navarre Town Center Plan. Ms. Hernandez lectured and listened to the
Navarre community and helped the community, itself, realize their dreams of
a new vision for Navarre. Concurrently, HCDI was designing the Navarre
Visitors Information Center, which became the cornerstone of this new
vision. The community is proud and feel their voices were heard on this new
5,000 sf state-of-the -art facility with public gallery space, conference
areas and administrative offices perched on the edge of the Sound taking
full advantage of the unbelievable views and outside spaces created by
HCDI. This budget-concious $1.1 million facility reflects the soul of the
community and has been described as a symbol of hope for the future.
HCDI is currently designing a high quality residence on a
very constrictive site. HCDI provided full design services as well as
facade studies, systems studies and land development assistance.
Security Force Facility
Soto Cano Air Base,
In 2005, HCDI designed a two-story, 10,000 sf facility
housing administrative areas, arms dispatch, training areas and holding
cells. The design of the facility utilizes local building materials,
techniques and is evocative of the regional style developed by HCDI for
Soto Cano air Base during the last eight years.

total construction cost of $100,000,000+. HCDI was instrumental in
